The Carson Valley is the birthplace and garden spot of Nevada, located at the base of the Sierra Nevada just minutes away from Lake Tahoe.
This lush valley,
with its spectacular scenery, was a stopping place for emigrants to
rest themselves and their livestock before crossing the daunting Sierras
on their way to seek their fortunes in the California gold fields. Some
stayed behind to become ranchers or merchants and established trading
posts along the Emigrant trail.
Shortly after the start of the California Gold Rush,
silver was discovered in Nevada, and the small towns in the valley
began to boom as people made their way to the silver mines of Virginia
City and the Comstock Lode, which are less than an hour away. These
towns still retain their historical character and charm with tree-lined
streets, western and Victorian architecture, beautiful parks, and
museums.
The Carson Valley is host to a wide range of special events
every year which serve to get the public out into town to enjoy the
weather and meet their neighbors and friends. From car shows and swap
meets to movies in the park and wine walks, if you really want a taste
of living in the community, just attend a few of these events and you
will be packing your bags for the Carson Valley!
